Isuzu Philippines Corporation embraces environmental initiative as it celebrates 20th anniversary
As Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) celebrates two decades of operations in the country this year, the automotive manufacturer started marking the milestone in a manner it had always done in the past - engage in a Corporate Social Responsibility activity.
IPC commemorated its 20th year anniversary at the MakilingBotanic Gardens within the University of the Philippines Los Baños inLagunaon February 4, 2017. The project started in 2010 during its 13th Inaugural celebration. At that time, IPC committed to protect and further develop a portion of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve. Responding to calls to "adopt a forest," IPC took on the responsibility of caring 13 hectares of the forest reserve, in which area the company had since planted more than 300 trees composed of 13 species, and had constructed a 1.3-kilometer walkway.
This protected site, which includes the Dipterocarp Arboretum, has become a favorite venue for educational trips, field laboratories, scientific studies, and leisure activities.

During the 20th anniversary kick-off activity, IPC President Hajime Koso led company associates, officers of the Makiling Botanic Gardens and other guests in planting a fresh batch of seedlings. IPC, through its Assistant Vice President for Administration David Yandoc, Jr., also renewed its support for the CSR project through a Commitment for the Environment pledge.

"Isuzu Philippines Corporation would not have thrived in the automotive industry for 20 years if it were not for the dedication, competence and hard work of its officers and associates. But a bigger part of IPC's success comes from people who have patronized Isuzu products and services for two decades. It is only fitting that, as we celebrate this momentous occasion, we return the favor to society and continue pursuing our commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. This should be beneficial not only to residents of the communities we operate in but to all stakeholders as well," Koso said.
The Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR) is recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park, and covers a total of 4,224 hectares spread across the towns of Los Baños, Calamba and Bay in Laguna, and Sto. Tomas in Batangas. Under the care of Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems, the forest reserve allows for scientific studies concerning the conservation and sustainable development of such types of areas.
Through the years, IPC's environmental projects, which form part of its CSR initiatives, have included the staging of eco-themed shows for the children living in Biñan, Laguna; donating a river garbage trap to the local government of Santa Rosa, Laguna; contributing 10,000 tilapia fingerlings to the Laguna Lake Development Authority; expanding a forest strip in Atimonan, Quezon by planting 15,000 Narra seedlings; planting mangroves in Hundred Islands, Pangasinan; taking part in a variety of conservation efforts in Rizal Park (Manila), Osmeña Park (Cebu) and Davao City Park; involvement in the Save the La Mesa Watershed Project; and by providing 3,000 seedlings and environment signage to Caliraya, Laguna, as well as 1,000 seedlings to Ilagan, Isabela.
Together with the CSR activity, IPC also introduced its 20th year logo with the theme "20 Years and Beyond", IPC's anniversary logo depicts its journey from past to present while also showing the company's commitment to provide excellent products in the years to come.
"This event is just the start of a yearlong celebration for IPC, expect that we will bring in more products and events throughout the year," added Koso.
